Amaro Montenegro was created in Bologna in 1885 by the rebellious genius of young Stanislao Cobianchi in homage to Princess Elena of Montenegro, the future Queen of Italy. D'Annunzio praised it, calling it a "liquor of virtues." To create Amaro Montenegro, 40 aromatic herbs are selected, particularly spices, dried fruit, roots, seeds, bark, citrus peel, rhizomes, flowers, and wood from all over the world.
